Andy’s personal background and experience, including involvement at many levels and disciplines within the construction industry, provides a direct benefit to our clients in that he has the ability to see matters from the perspective of all parties and to identify a client’s particular needs. This experience also means that he can relate to the individual project personnel through his own past ‘hands-on’ experience.

He has gained over 40 years experience in the construction industry and has worked on many iconic projects across UK, Middle East and Africa. He is the author of The FIDIC Contracts: Obligations of the Parties and Construction Claims & Responses: Effective Writing & Presentation.

Years of first-hand experience within the industry have led him to specialise in the field of construction issues, claims, dispute management and adjudication. While avoidance of disputes are a priority, if they occur, he favours a proactive and structured approach to protect the contractual entitlements of the client. Apart from providing consultancy services, he also provides education and training on construction subjects.

His personal background and experience provides a direct benefit to the clients in such a way that he relates to the needs of the client from both the employer’s and contractor’s perspective and the individual project personnel through his own first-hand experience.

Andy Hewitt's History

Andy Hewitt is the founder and practice principal of Hewitt Construction Consultancy, as well as a consultant, teacher and trainer.

In a career of more than 40 years in the construction industry, Andy has lived and worked in the United Kingdom, West Africa and the Middle East. He has worked on projects in the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

Before founding Hewitt Construction Consultancy, Andy held senior contracts management, commercial management and project management positions with contractors, subcontractors and consultants.

He has been involved in a wide variety of construction projects including super high-rise, large low-rise housing developments, hotels, shopping malls, airports, hospitals, heavy civil engineering, process plants, water treatment plants, water reclamation plants, pipelines, marine works, desalination plants and royal palaces.

Construction Claims & Responses – Effective Writing & Presentation, 2nd Edition

The book examines the different types of claim common to construction contracts and presents a step-by-step guide to demonstrate the process of building up the submission of a claim. For the 2nd edition, the guidance has been updated and the text improved, including a new chapter on contract administration for claims. Also new is additional material covering explanations, summaries, and conclusions in narrative writing.
